The first essential element of the crawl arm pull (under water) is the high elbow.
The high elbow takes place during the first third of the underwater stroke. The swimmer is engaged in this during the “grab phase”. The high elbow is not held during the entire underwater stroke.
Immersion / water immersion
The hand dips shoulder-width apart and as far forward as possible. As the body rotates, the arm extends as far as possible. The hand and forearm are bent slightly to catch the water.
High elbow
Pull backwards and downwards with a clear elbow-forward posture. Bend the elbow joint so that the hand passes under the body.
Print phase
Powerful pressing of the arm pull past the thigh (upwards-backwards), with a direct transition to swinging out.
